Audrey Mcbay
“HAWTHORNE’S LABORATORY!” The bus drivers loud voice rang clearly through the bus, shortly followed by the small ‘ding!’ that preceded the doors opening. Audrey rose from her seat, where she had been lounging with her forehead pressed against the window, watching the scenery roll by. She shuffled down the aisle to the door and hopped out, turning back to get one last look at the bus before the doors snapped shut and it slowly trundled away. She suddenly realized that she had been the only person to leave at this stop. Did everyone else have a pokemon already? Probably. This region was so different to others. The people lived in fear of attack by what they called ‘noctus pokemon’. Audrey had yet to see one with her own eyes but the way people talked of them made them terrifying enough. Noctus pokemon were the main talk of every radio channel she had heard, every TV show she’d seen in this region. People in poke centers conversed in hushed voices about tales of attacks and spreading infection. The lives of the Nexivus regions people seemed to be centered around this catastrophe.
Audrey had come to Nexivus for the same reason she travelled to any region: to explore, to gain knowledge and experience but most of all, to keep moving. Staying in any place for too long drove Audrey crazy. When authorities in Featherwing had insisted she receive a pokemon if she wanted to continue her travels, she didn’t think twice. One long bus ride later, here she was. Hawthorne Lab, ready to receive her first pokemon. Although she hadn’t thought much about it before this, the prospect of having a companion to travel with, to help defend her and share experiences with her was very exciting.
The light haired girl stared at the picturesque white bungalow, surrounded by beautiful thickets of green. For some reason, the way people had spoken about this lab in Featherwing city had made her imagine the place a little bigger, a little more professional and classy. The building before her seemed small and cozy. Audrey felt that entering the lab would be like entering someone’s home rather than a certified workplace. Something about this little house made Audrey want to sit down and sketch it. But no. She should really be concentrating on getting her pokemon.
Hiking her backpack more comfortably onto her shoulders, the lanky girl strolled down the garden path. She had long since tucked her winter hoodie into the bottom of her bag since warm weather reigned over the current season. Audrey wondered fleetingly if she ought to be more dressed up for entering a lab but shrugged it off. People cam ehere to get their pokemon all the time didn’t they? They probably weren’t bothered with how someone was dressed. Besides, Audrey felt perfectly comfortable in her favourite white tank top and cargo pants. Approaching the door, the young girl lifted her hand and knocked with the back of her knuckles on the wooden panels. -ratatat- To her surprise, the door moved slightly at her touch, swinging a little way open. Was Hawthrone Labs door always unlocked or had someone forgotten to shut it properly? Either way, Audrey took the opportunity to let herself in.
“Hellooo?” she called out, peeking her head around the doorway, “anyone home?” The room seemed quite empty at the moment but there were several doors leading off into adjoining areas. Was it everyone’s day off or something? Audrey stepped into the lab, shutting the door behind her with her foot.
