I'm actually not at all familiar with how route-style pokemon games normally run things, but coming from a Harry Potter background, I'm not really understanding why you do separate threads for getting your starter pokemon.
For me, a straight parallel is how sorting hats are run, where there's just one thread, where new characters pop in unsorted, the mod posts with the Hat, then the characters pop out sorted. Wouldn't it be easier on the mods if Professor Hawthorne worked that way too? It'd be a turn-around of only a couple posts at most before people can hit Featherwing City, and if there's a bunch of people queued up, the mods can take care of them all with one reply since there's no reason Professor Hawthorne can't take care of multiple trainers at one time. Basically: Character enters with no pokemon; Professor does her spiel; Character leaves with pokemon.
Anyway, feel free to tell me I'm being silly. It just sounds like a simpler method to me. xD

I'd have to disagree with you.
The professor meeting the trainer isn't something we really want to be glossed over. Sometimes a character will stay and chat a while, sometimes a character will annoy the professor and not/almost not get their starter. Not to mention that, for me at least, I like to go in knowing what's happening. I don't want to open a thread thinking it'll be the professor and then finding out that the character is fighting a Pokemon already.
Just my two cents.
