-- AVA VIMES-- AGE 18
Gender Female
HOMETOWN Laguna Village
APPEARANCE
Ava's defining characteristic is her bright orange hair, and its strong, striking color adds to her air of tenacity. Layered spikes frame her face, while the rest flows down to her mid back. Ava often keeps the vibrant locks in a clean ponytail to prevent tangles and other minor but common annoyances. Cool grey eyes add to her confident aura; coupled with strong cheek bones and a pointed chin, Ava can appear intense upon first glance, although her upturned nose, slim frame and playful freckles across nose and cheekbones somewhat help to negate that effect. Due to constant travel Ava is well fit, her muscles acceptably lean underneath olive toned skin.
A tendency to talk with her hands and the expressiveness of her face lessen the intense look Ava naturally has. Her voice is soft, though when speaking she subconsciously projects it louder in order to sound stronger, and when really upset it often squeaks or cracks. Ava is also not very graceful; despite daily hiking and the control she's attempted to instill in herself, clumsiness still often prevails, which annoys her to no end. And lastly, Ava has the habit of staring or squinting at people, which can sometimes be unnerving.
PERSONALITY
The biggest point in Ava's personality is her desire to be independent. She isn't fierce or domineering; she simply wants to prove to herself that she can survive on her own, that she's strong enough, both physically and emotionally, to not need anyone else if she doesn't want to. She seeks to be her own hero, strongly disliking the idea of being saved by the cliche prince charming. However, this sense of independence does not extend to her Pokémon, whom Ava thinks of as nearly being a part of herself. This drive to perfect herself has made her very self critical, and she takes any failures personally. She can also be a bit critical of others when she sees her own flaws in them, sort of projecting her frustrations onto them.
This doesn't necessarily mean Ava is an unfriendly person. She can actually be quite amiable and compassionate; especially when it comes to children or the defenseless, for whom she has a surprisingly strong maternal instinct. Her own Pokémon definitely fall under this umbrella of compassion, although this does not stop her from firmly training them into their own self sufficient fighting force. Her Pokémon may find her strict and sometimes harsh, but always out of tough love. For the older, more defensible people, Ava tends to remain neutral until learning more about them. However, despite the person Ava has a very competitive spirit, most likely a by-product from her perfectionist attitude.
Ava is constantly on the move, not the type to settle down in one area for too long. With so much in the world to see, why waste time? On a general basis she follows whatever whim or interest currently fascinates her -- but this is one of the most prominent reasons for why she joined the Guild. While ever the girl to seize the day and live in the moment, Ava still had a nagging need to have some sort of goal, or her time might not amount to anything. Thus: Guild quests. When this meant having a partner or two, Ava could deal; as long as they weren't too bossy or domineering. Handling the occasional annoying trainer usually means passive-aggressive behavior, but dealing with severe annoyance can lead to outright confrontations and possibly a fight or two.
HISTORY
One of Ava's first memories is of the police at the front door, the shocked face of her babysitter, and her four-year old heart dropping into her stomach. Her parents had died that night in a car crash. The rest of the memory is a blur, except for the grief and regret that she'd never really know her parents. After seemingly endless legal activities and people shuffling her from place to place, Ava ended up in The Grove Children's Home.
At The Grove, Ava met other children going through similar experiences to hers, and through that shared experience they forged a bond. Ava was able to get past the grief and live life again-- until her friends were adopted and left her behind. Ava took on a rebellious attitude towards being adopted; she didn't want to rely on more people who could just as easily die or leave and crush her heart again. So a desire for independence was fostered.
Ava spent her life up until her 18th birthday at The Grove, supporting the younger children and greatly enjoying the "pokemon therapy" time, where tamed pokemon were brought in for the children to play with. The day Ava turned 18 she left The Grove, only regretting that she must leave behind the kids she'd grown so fond of. But there was a world out there to explore and now that she was officially an adult she was free to do so. With the small amount of money the orphanage was able to give her as a parting present and their good wishes, Ava headed for Nexivus, despite the warnings of danger, in order to prove her independence and strength.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE Nimbus' jaw had dropped. This was so out of Bleach's normal character that it shocked her -- even letting it slip earlier had been petty of him, but she hadn't thought too much of it since, well... mostly because telling Nimbus, a girl, that Frost was gay was just fundamentally different than telling Aegis, a boy. That was her logic, at least.
Still, loyal Nimbus' instinctual reaction was to defend the albino kid, no matter what he did. This wasn't like him. She assumed he would stop acting like a royal jackass once he got some sleep; that is, if Frost didn't kill him first.
"Yeah, what the girl here said," Nimbus spoke sharply, stepping up next to Poly, "No fighting!" But Bleach had stopped walking when Frost yanked him around, and the two boys looked thunderous. From years of experience, the weather manipulator knew those expressions. Swiveling her head to catch Aegis' eye, she entreated, "Aegis! Boy, I think you should do something like right now…"
The strongman, frowning deeply, nodded to the black girl. He had just decided that Bleach had crossed a line, and he did not approve. He was, in fact, very upset with the mind reader.
"I didn't say anything," Bleach was growling in exasperation to the furious Frost. His shoulders were tense. "You could've played it off if you wanted to. Dude, you don't want to mess with me. I can tear you apart." Mentally, of course. This was one of the few times that testosterone was actually getting in the way of the boy's clear thinking. All his mind was concentrating on was it's jealousy over Aegis and now, predominantly, his disbelieving frustration that even Frost had been with Poly (not that Aegis had, but the point was that she'd found him attractive.) He wanted to punch something. "And are you really so ashamed that my hinting at it is such a big deal--"
Bleach was cut off when Aegis grabbed his arm and easily twisted it behind his back. Calmly, but with an dark undercurrent, Aegis said, "You're going to stop. Show me where the bags are. Now."
"Ow! Ow ow, man, you're going to break my arm!" Bleach hissed, trying to snake himself into a less painful position. But he couldn't even loosen the strongman's grasp. Aegis was mad. Closing his eyes, Bleach growled and stopped struggling. After a brief moment, he snapped, "Fine! They're this way," the boy nodded in the right direction.
"Wait. You're going to apologize, too." Aegis continued, not moving when Bleach tried to step forward.
The mind reader froze. "What?! But I didn't say -- Ow! Ow, okay!" Bleach grumbled angrily. Putting it mildly, he wasn't used to being treated like this. Generally, Bleach was unable to be phased and had the playful attitude of an imp. He didn't go around losing his head and having to apologize. Without looking at Frost, Bleach muttered, "Sorry."
Twist. "Crap! Ouch, I'm sorry, man, okay? I'll let you tell the next people yourself, yeah?"
"Bleach," Aegis said harshly, cutting across the boy's words. "Just shut up." Apparently that was the best he was going to get from the white-haired little imp at the moment, so he didn't push it any further. They didn't have time to, anyway. Petr had just groaned from his position on the ground behind them, and both Aegis and Nimbus turned to look at the man cautiously.
"How about we get the hell out of here and yell at Bleach later?" Nimbus suggested apprehensively, edging away from the burly, half-conscious mutant. Out of her self-defense instinct, the weather manipulator launched another rock at the man's skull. It knocked his rising head back into the ground, most likely sending him under again. Still, point was that they were in danger just standing around where they were...
