These people were strange. Glancing at the shiny, new pokeball in her hand, the woman looked up to see the quickly retreating figure of a suspicious old man. "Why ... would he give me this?" The brunette certainly didn't do anything to merit such generosity -- especially from a random stranger. She warily examined the pokeball. Unable to find evidence of tampering and the like, she showed it to her Mareep. "What do you think of this, Rydia?" she asked quietly. Rydia sniffed the pokeball amiably, then proceeded to ignore it and rub against her trainer's leg.
"... I suppose you don't care, then." Sinclair wasn't going to get anywhere being overly cautious, she decided. Pressing the small mechanism in the center of the pokeball with her thumb, the trainer tossed it up into the air. A bright red beam shot out of the pokeball, quickly materializing into a small, green, bud-like pokemon. Disoriented, the Budew looked around for anything familiar. Not finding anything remotely looking like what it was used to, the green pokemon looked like it was about to cry. "Bud ..." the pokemon sniffled, like a little lost puppy.
The woman's eyes widened slightly. Was the pokemon really about to cry? Confused, Sinclair tried to think of ways to reassure the small pokemon. Rydia, after a few curious sniffs, pranced up to the Budew and began to cuddle with it. The Budew paused, then began to giggle, playing with the fluffy electric pokemon's wool. It's not about to cry anymore, Sin thought, immensely relieved. She wasn't trained to deal with crying or the like. She watched in slight amusement as the two played with each other, noting Professor Hawthorne's description of the Mareep.
A sweetheart most of the time, indeed. Watching her two pokemon, Sin couldn't help but wonder what kind of trigger she had. So far, Rydia had been nothing but compliant. "Rydia ..." she muttered to herself. Speaking of the Mareep, Rydia had a name -- it was about time the small grass pokemon got one, as well. She approached the duo, placing a hand on the Mareep's head. Rydia glanced at her trainer curiously, then happily danced back, allowing the trainer full view of the Budew. It glanced around, confused, reaching for Rydia. Gently, Sinclair knelt down and stroked the small grass type. "Rosa. You're ... Rosa."
Rosa blinked at her new name, then giggled again. Running toward Sin, the Budew clung to the woman's boot. "What?" she breathed, surprised. What was she supposed to do now? Following Rosa's example, Rydia sidled up to the other side of their trainer, nuzzling the woman's side. Smiling softly, the woman carefully lifted the Budew and stood up. "I don't think you can go fast enough by yourself," she said kindly.
Petting the pokemon, Sinclair began to walk through Featherwing, exploring the city further. She had heard there was a gym in Featherwing -- perhaps she could challenge it? If I can defeat gym leaders, I'd be strong, she mused. If she was strong, the road to figuring out what was responsible for the noctus pokemon -- and destroying what was responsible for it -- was that much easier.
She strode by the buildings, ignoring the Budew that was snuggling against her chest. "Mareeeep!" The sudden violent screech brought the woman to a full stop. Looking at Rydia, it was obvious that the sheep pokemon was upset. Her wool was swelling to nearly double the size as the pokemon gathered electricity, static crackling left and right.
On guard, the woman warily glanced around. "Who's there?" she said dangerously, sliding a hand into one of her many pockets, where she kept one of her many knives. Rosa began to sniffle once again, opposed to the sudden stop and the tension in the air. Sinclair absentmindedly stroked the pokemon to calm her down, waiting for the appearance of some unknown entity. What could put her Mareep on edge like that? NOTES hmm. TAGS griff!

By the time he'd arrived to Feathering City from the laboratory, Volta had already been there waiting for Griff at the pokemon center, and she wasn't too pleased about it. As far as he understood from her gamut of <eee>'s and <mol>'s and <gaa>'s, the pokemon center (an uninspired rendezvous point, Griff had to admit, but it wasn't like he knew the city well enough to pick anywhere else) was a hive of overexcitable children and overconfident douchebags all starting out on their grand, epic adventures to become pokemon masters--Griff couldn't help but wonder what category he fell into.
Small wonder that the pokemon center was full of aspiring trainers though. So far, it seemed like Featherwing City must make a habit of handing out pokemon for free. Griff had been wandering the city for barely half an hour before an old man approached him, gave him a fierce hand-shake, showed him about the whole town (waiting patiently for him if Griff decided to meander about), and finally entrusted a pokeball and a pair of running shoes in Griff's care before he left to who knows where. Not once did the old man stop talking to let Griff speak, and in the end, Griff was baffled and possibly lost.
But hey. Running shoes! And apparently, a togepi too, which Griff had exchanged brief words with ("Hi" on his part, <Pii> on the togepi's part) before the pokemon decided she'd rather curl up in her pokeball for a nap than enjoy his and Volta's company. Griff didn't mind, and it seemed like the togepi didn't mind that she was in his care now, so that had all gone down well.
With his emolga Volta sitting alert on his shoulder, Griff wandered the city trying to locate the gym again. He'd gotten completely turned around during the old man's tour, but that was all well and good in his book. Spending time lost in a city was the best way to learn everything about it, in his opinion, and worse came to worst, he'd get a taxi back to the pokemon center. For now, Griff was happy just to be out in the world again.
Perhaps his own senses had dulled since he'd spent so much time locked away from the rest of the world, but Griff didn't notice anything was wrong even when Volta did. Suddenly and silently, she'd tugged lightly on his hair to get his attention, and now Volta stood stiffly upright, all her muscles tensed up and her nose turned to the wind to pick up the scent. Her eyes were worried--even frightened, and Griff couldn't even begin to imagine what might frighten Volta.
"Who's there?"
The voice sounded as wary and cautious as Griff was now, and he could only assume the speaker wasn't the threat that'd gotten Volta so nervous. Griff glanced at Volta, who shook her head and still refusing to make a sound--best to keep quiet, then--and he stepped forward into the small side-street that the voice came from.
He saw Sinclair and when he saw that she looked ready to spring into an attack, Griff almost wished he'd stayed hidden. He shook his head, mouthed NOT ME--which should've been obvious enough, because if Volta was visibly terrified, then so was Griff. Against his better wisdom, Griff turned his back on her to look back around the corner--both as a gesture of trust, displaying an unfounded faith that she wouldn't stab him in the back when he had it turned, and a chance to look back the way he came just in case.
The way was clear as far as he could see, but even that expanse of nothing didn't even begin to quell Volta's fears, and by the looks of it, the girl's Mareep wasn't feeling any safer.

Blood was pouring from a scratch above his eyebrow, staining his yellow tee-shirt. “GET OUT OF THE WAY!” He screamed, cradling what looked like a bloody ball of fur. As he rushed past, the shape was recognisable as a Meowth, deep scratches embedded in the flesh of the feline. She wasn’t moving. The trainer rushed past, tears filling his eyes as he made his speedy journey to the nearest Pokemon Centre.
A thunderous roar was heard from the direction of where the teen had run. Dustbins suddenly flew in different directions. The creature jumped forwards, snarling aggressively. It was a mankey, its fur a darker brown colour, with stripes and it's eyes... They were black and empty and soulless. He was panting slightly, as he peered up at the duo. A moment's calm before the storm.
Another scream from the ape's mouth, fangs bared in a display that wouldn't be seen as anything other than a very dangerous warning. Without another sign, he bounded forwards, a deathly screech crying out, his claws outstretched.
He wanted to fight. |

As Griff stepped forward, Sin's eyes snapped sharply toward the movement. To her surprise, out came a teenager, probably a little bit taller than Sinclair herself, with ... Bright pink hair? The woman spent a split second wondering abuot Featherwing. Was blindingly-colored hair ... normal, or something? She honestly hoped not. Sinclair wasn't sure what to think of him, but now wasn't the time to decide. Rydia obviously wasn't afriad of the boy -- she was still stamping the ground furiously, sparking like crazy and glaring at something that wasn't ... yet ... there.
Besides, it seemed like that thing on his shoulder was also on the alert. Once again surprising the woman, the other boy went and turned his back on her. She hesitated for just a moment, then turned her own back on him. She glanced around, back from where she had come from, scanning the area for the disturbance. Sinclair quickly spun around, however, when she heard faint, rapid footsteps. A boy ran out, with a bloody lump in his arms. Instinctively, she pressed herself to the side as he sprinted by. "What the hell?" she muttered, turning back.
Her eyes narrowed as she heard a roar. Unfazed by the dustbins, she saw a snarling ... thing leap out. It took the woman a moment to realize it was a Mankey -- but what kind of Mankey looked like that? A sudden flash of memory went before her eyes. A horde of Beedrill ... why were they so dark? Those stripes ... his dead body ... A harsh light entered her eyes when she realized just what was wrong with the monkey pokemon. It was infected by the Darkness. Just like those things that killed him! she thought poisonously.
What luck she had. Her first day out, and Sinclair had already run into one of the monsters that had killed him. Her fist clenched around the handle of the knife in her pocket. She coldly regarded the pokemon with hatred as it bared its fangs and screamed. In her mind's eye, she could see herself driving her knive straight down its throat ... She was snapped out of her thoughts, however, when it suddenly charged. About to draw her weapon, she was ready to attack when Rydia bounded forward with a vicious screech.
Raising her tail, the red orb began to glow with a harsh, metallic light. Violently swinging her tail like a club, Rydia attacked the Mankey with an Iron Tail.
Rosa, observing the violence from the previously-sweet Mareep, and on edge from the presence of the Noctus pokemon, began to cry. "Deeeeew!" the pokemon wailed, clinging steadfast to the front of Sinclair's shirt. To her trainer's horror, Rosa began to send razor-sharp leaves flying everywhere, indiscriminately attacking her surroundings. Ignoring the cuts on her arms and body, Sinclair pried the Budew off of her shirt and made the baby pokemon face the Mankey. Upon seeing the dark pokemon, Rosa began to cry all over again -- this time, the leaves heading for the vicious Mankey.
Gently setting the wailing Budew on the ground, Sin wiped blood from a cut on her cheek and pulled out two knives in their sheaths. Tossing one at the other human, she drew her own. "Defend yourself, kid," she snarled, turning to face the struggle between pokemon. "If you can't even use a knife, get out of my way." This Mankey was probably too strong for her; she knew how dangerous Noctus pokemon were ... but that wouldn't stop the woman from trying. Her blood began pumping, like it only did in a fight. "Get ready," she breathed. SUMMARY mareep uses iron tail, budew uses razor leaf, and sin gets her hands on a knife. rydia's ability is static -- thirty percent chance of paralyzing the target. NOTES BATTLETYME. and sin totally wants to kill something, seriously. TAGS griff!

Volta whirled about, leaping off Griff's shoulder and taking to the rooftops, electricity sparking and zapping as she began charging her next attack. As soon as he felt her take off, and just after he heard the boy yell, Griff darted for the wall and put his back to it with all due haste. The boy rushed by with his bloody pokemon--Griff didn't bother taking either the time or effort to note what kind of pokemon--in his arms, and Griff was already releasing the rest of his pokemon from their pokeballs.
With that done, Griff finally turned his head to see what they were up against--and at first, he had no idea what it was. When he'd gone behind bars a year ago, the darkness had already hit the news, but back then, it was a far away thing. From the civilized shitholes of Oxgate City, it looked like the noctus threat would never be a concern, not when everyone had to worry about food, bills, and, quite frankly, staying alive in the streets. There wasn't any reason to worry about the Darkness when you heard gunfire outside your door at night.
But it'd been a year since then, and Griff had read the papers. Unfortunately for him, he didn't recognize the reality in the words. Noctus Sneasel murdered a family in Montague City? Obviously a freak accident. Now with the noctus mankey in front of him, Griff found that he'd been in error. It wasn't a familiar experience, but it'd happened before. He got used to it--fast.
Out of all his pokemon, Atlas appeared first, his bright eyes at first annoyed to be stirred and then deathly alarmed. <Weavile!> it snarled at Griff and then growled its orders at Garnet and Bess. Without looking back, Atlas then charged forward, screeching at the mankey for all he was worth.
Obeying the other pokemon, the vulpix stood her ground in front of Griff while the togepi started dragging him back toward the wall. "Worry about yourself," Griff suggested with a bit more edge to his voice than he'd intended. Garnet glanced back at him and took him at his word. Bounding toward the mankey, she whipped her tail about, the very gesture of good-natured ineffectiveness, and then spewed out a gout of burning embers. Wisely, the vulpix kept her distance from the mankey, not inclined on getting within range of the fighting pokemon's grasp.
Bess had a different opinion and stuck by Griff's side, apparently having grown fond of him already in their short time together. It was an easier option for her though. Extrasensory struck home from wherever she deigned to stand, and her bright, charming smile was as disarming from here as it would be up close.
Spite, slow as usual, appeared out of his pokeball in his own sweet time, assessed the situation, and promptly took the defensive approach. He used Reflect immediately, placing a shining wall of light defending himself and all his companions. Following the budew's razor leaf, in a sign of pokemon well used to working with each other, Volta finally sent down her charged Thundershock, and Atlas (to Griff's disbelief) called up an Avalanche. (A second of thought made it obvious to Griff that Atlas simply didn't intend on getting too close to the mankey if he didn't have to, but really, an avalanche? In an alleyway?) Sprite followed their respective blows with a swirling, shimmering haze of Psywave.
"Defend yourself, kid. If you can't even use a knife, get out of my way."
Griff caught the knife with comfortable ease, though he held it with significantly less ease. It felt large and heavy in his grasp, and he immediately passed it off to his right hand, sliding a scalpel-like switchblade out of his sleeve and into his dominant left hand. Griff decided he'd wonder what a girl his age was doing with multiple weapons-grade knives later. For now, he would've approved of her carring AK-47's through Featherwing's previously safe streets.
"I can use a knife," Griff responded curtly. He'd use her larger blade for parrying, as he usually did with pipes and blackjacks, the swifter blade for striking if it came down to that.
"Get ready."
Griff glanced at her and then grinned in relief. A pretty girl--there are worse sorts of people to die next to. "After you, my lady." 717 words TOO MANY POKEMON. The deranged fighting type Pokémon had intended to rip apart the tiny female human that was nearest, but was soon interrupted by a wailing and then a dull pain in his side. A strange, fluffy Pokémon had decided to physically attack him, possibly the worst decision to make, and perhaps the last. Grabbing the Mareep’s long tail he began to swing it around for a bit of momentum before releasing it back toward the trainer’s Budew, aimed to ride right through its own Razor Leaf. “Mankeeyyy!” The electric types little interruption had been enough to tick the already-pissed Pokémon off even further. But his interest was suddenly lost in that small group, for a flash of white and yellow captivated his shallow attention. Assessing the little flying squirrel would have to wait as a piercing caterwaul assaulted the Mankey’s hypersensitive hearing. Both the vulpine and feline Pokémon were capable of making such an enraging racket. The Tail Whip lowered his defense a second time, but he’d been quick enough to raise his arms in order to protect his small body from the singeing fire attack.
Directly afterward a landslide of snow tumbled toward Mankey, threatening to sweep him away. The dark sickness heightening his reaction time, he quickly raced back toward the back of the alley, appearing as if he’d given in. But only when he leaped into the air and began scaling the walls as if he’d been doing it for years was it apparent that he was simply rendering the Avalanche useless. In a flash the Mankey was back at the battle scene, the Weavile on his bad list. A bizarre double-wammy of psychic attacks that seemed to come from nowhere forced him to stumble a bit, but he was far from deterred from his objective, the Togepi’s pitiful attempt at charming him obviously failing. With incredible speed he rushed the dark and ice type, leaping back into the air in order to roll into a pivot in midair, narrowly dodging the previous electric type’s Thundershock. As he fell from the sky again he shot the Weevile a quick leer and outstretched his arms for a dangerous Scratch attack, although he could feel the effects of the Barrier robbing him of his full potential physical assaults. "Keyyy!"

Sinclair's eyes widened as the Mankey grabbed a hold of Rydia's tail, swinging her around and around. The Mareep cried out in pain, releasing static electricity from all over her body. Her wool began to cling closer to her body as the Mareep released all of the stored-up electricity; it wasn't strong enough to do damage, but Rydia hoped it was enough to paralyze the Mankey's movements, even a little bit. The instant the Mankey released the electric sheep pokemon from his grip, Sin moved in front of Rosa, ignoring the cuts that were forming on her back from the razor-sharp leaves. Small amounts of blood began to slide out of the wounds on her arms and back, but now wasn't the time to worry about those; they weren't nearly life-threatening.
"Dammit!" the trainer swore, bracing herself. With a grunt, she caught the limp electric pokemon as it crashed into her. Quicky moving out of the Razor Leaf's erratic line of fire, Sin examined her pokemon. There were little external wounds -- there was no blood seeping through the small breaks in the skin -- but she could feel the difficulty Rydia had breathing. Gently running a hand along the pokemon's ribs, she figured that a few of them were cracked or broken. It wasn't enough to be life-threatening, but the faster she got her pokemon to the pokemon center, the better.
For now, though, there was the damned Mankey to worry about.
She carefully placed Rydia on the ground, next to the nearest wall. "Don't move from there," she commanded quietly. Sinclair gave the pokemon a soft pat on the head, then turned back to look at Rosa. The Budew had stopped her constant barrage of leaves, and was now cowering in a little ball. The woman quickly moved to Budew's side. Rosa peeked out, then clung steadfastly to her trainer's leg. "Deeew," the pokemon sobbed. Sinclair glanced back at the Mankey -- it seemed the boy was holding his own against it for now -- so she focused on Rosa for the moment, kneeling.
Stroking the trembling baby pokemon, Sinclair began to murmur quietly in a calming voice. "Rosa, it's going to be okay." Pulling the pokemon away from her, Sinclair held her pokemon with a steady gaze. Speaking quietly as to not attract the attention of the Mankey, she added, "Rosa. Use Growth." The Budew stared at her trainer, uncomprehending. Sin rolled her eyes, then made a blooming motion with her hands. "Growth, Rosa!" The Budew blinked, then chittered happily. Closing her eyes, the pokemon began to absorb the light. The pokemon seemed to swell in size slightly, the bulb on top of her head opening.
The woman smiled grimly in satisfaction, then pointed at the Mankey. "Now Razor Leaf." Glancing at the noctus pokemon, the Budew trembled in fear as she realized what her trainer wanted her to do. Sin wanted her to battle. Rosa fearfully glanced at the brunette, then sent out barrage of leaves into the air, high above the battling on the ground. The leaves hung in the air for a moment, then began to slice through the air, heading straight for the fighting pokemon. "Be careful!" she called at the other person -- she could see that Rosa's attack was rather unfocused, and it ran the risk of hitting the 'friendly' pokemon.
Her gaze was drawn to a yellow form rapidly moving at her side -- then it shot forward, screeching harshly. "Rydia, no!" the trainer called, inwardly cursing. Pulling out the Mareep's pokeball, she recalled the electric pokemon. "You're in no condition to fight!" she hissed, placing the pokeball in her bag. Why didn't she think of keeping Rydia in her pokeball earlier? Sinclair felt like hitting herself; what happened to her quick thinking? Don't be stupid, Sin, she reminded herself.
Turning back to the battle, the woman felt useless. The young man who was fighting obviously was more experienced in pokemon battles than she was; there wasn't much she could do at the moment but stand by, protecting Rosa from any incoming attacks. Her knife was an option, but it was definitely a stupid risk to run straight into the mishmash of elements and powers. If worst came to worst, however, Sinclair knew she wouldn't hesitate to leap in. She couldn't let that pokemon escape from them -- it would probably kill more people and pokemon.
Her thoughts flashed back to the disfigured bodies of her father and brother. Then she remembered a news report she had seen recently -- the couple who were attacked by the noctus Sneasel. They were in intensive care, hanging on the border of life and death. If they didn't take care of the darkened Mankey know, who knew when that headline would change to 'Family Dead Due to Noctus Mankey Attack in Featherwing City'? Biting her lip in frustration, she simply stood up, prepared to defend Rosa and attack the Mankey if it decided to head in their direction. SUMMARY rydia attempts to trigger her ability, static, before being tossed aside and returned to her pokeball. rosa uses growth, then attacks with another razor leaf. "Atlus!" Griff yelled. "Don't be a martyr!"
The weavile stared down the leer and remembered what it meant to be afraid. With bravery that overstepped bravado without ever looking back, he cackled in the mankey's face even as the scratch ripped him open from shoulder to waist. Atlus knew it could be worse; he could be down or dead. Atlas, determined to the last, told the Mankey in no short terms that his mother was a psyduck, his father held frequent relations with shroomishes, and that Atlus would find no small pleasure in painfully impregnating any and all of the Mankey's siblings, spitting the words out through his bloody teeth.
Griff had worked with Atlus for a while now, since the pokemon was a young, smirking Sneasel. Griff knew what was coming and dreaded it. Grinning, Atlus grabbed onto the Mankey when it struck close and called down yet another damned avalanche, intent on burying the both of them if he could.
Garnet didn't seem to agree with Atlus' suicide avalanching--and Griff shared her opinion, even if he didn't like her tactics any. Garnet darted in, believing her fiery hot body enough to resist the avalanche's damage, and opened another burst of embers on the Mankey. Griff cursed as soon as he saw Garnet move in for certain death. "Garnet! Are you mad, keep your distance!"
The solosis, on the other hand, saw a grim future for itself--not that Sprite ever saw anything pleasant in his future. Sprite used Acid Armor, turning arsenic gray over his green cell membrane, his body becoming a ball of splashing liquid. Feeling safer in his liquid body, Sprite sent a second bright, psychedelic wave at the Mankey. "Hang back, Sprite," Griff commanded, quite certain of what would happen to both Atlus and Garnet. "It might be down to just you and Volta soon."
When the mankey scaled the wall, Volta soared higher up too, in hopes of staying completely out of reach. Beating her wings, she sent down an Air Slash, and then settled her course to charge up for her next attack. If anyone in Featherwing City hadn't realized there was a fight going on, then they'd figured it out by now. Clouds and crackling electricity gathered around Volta for a second time, a bright beacon that--Griff hoped--marked the place that people should run away from.
The Budew's Razor Leaf made Griff back up to avoid stray leaves, but the togepi on his shoulder cried out when leaves slashed her shell open. Griff dropped his larger knife to shield her with his hand. That wasn't his best idea, and Griff had to check to make sure he hadn't lost any fingers. In pain, Bess toppled from his shoulder, and Griff caught her with his bloody hand before she splattered like Humpty Dumpty on the ground. Luckily, those few leaves seemed to be the only ones the Budew sent astray, but they took their toll, leaving his hand flayed and Bess panicking, for her sake or his, Griff didn't know.
Griff disregarded the pain, turning back to face the battle with Bess safely behind him. With the ongoing battle far out of her comfort zone, Bess clutched at his leg and hid behind him. Worried that he wouldn't be able to move with Bess at his feet, Griff fumbled and dropped her pokeball down to the ground. "You're safer in there."
The togepi shook her head, protesting, <Pii!> Summoning what calm she had, and it wasn't much, the togepi focused a second Extrasensory towards the Mankey. Nevertheless, he clutched the pokeball in front of her like it were the Holy Grail, and Griff hoped she had the sense to hide herself in it if it came down to it.
Griff turned to the Budew and grinned encouragement through a grimace. "Good attack. Keep it up," he said shortly. He'd happily take being flayed all over it meant making it out of this with everyone intact, and it looked like the Budew might be their last man standing at this rate. 668 words owwie. noctus pokemon hurt. notes mod! tag lv12 ~ Volta used Air Slash and Charge! lv09 ~ Sprite used Acid Armor and Psywave! lv10 ~ Atlas used Taunt and Avalanche! lv08 ~ Garnet used Ember! lv05 ~ Bess used Extrasensory!

For a moment, the sparks were visible, causing the Mankey to judder as he snarled at the Weavile. To say the taunt hit its mark was an understatement, and the Mankey seemed to shake off its potential paralysis by pure rage alone. He lunged forwards, fists raised high and pummelling every inch of the dark-type he could see. It wasn’t a trained attack, it was wild and unruly and vicious but would almost certainly still do some damage. However, the Mankey’s rage left it at a slight disadvantage as the Weavile wrapped its claws around him, bringing down another avalanche which succeeded in burying the two of them.
The Mankey found himself stuck, unable to move even his eyes as the numbing cold flooded him. A strangled cry left his mouth, pupil-less eyes half closed against the glaring white snow. However, a warmth began to spread out nearby him. It seemed that the vulpix was nearby, using her Ember attack to melt the frozen snow by the creature’s legs. The Mankey kicked out, body jolting as he pulled himself from the snow after a long moment’s silence, panting and snarling at the two humans and their remaining pokemon. It was obviously that the Mankey had been weakened, the freezing attack had taken its toll. But he was down, not out. And he was going to make the others pay for their companion's taunting words.
He dodged the electric-type’s Air Slash with ease as he ran forwards, using a nearby dustbin to project himself through the air to the Solosis. It seemed the most threatening of the pokemon remaining; although that Budew’s frantic Razor Leaf attacks were irritating, they weren’t nearly as painful as the psychic type’s had just been. His claws stretched out, slashing viciously as he tried his best to injure the pokemon with his painful scratches. He landed on the ground moments later with a crash, a snarl, and a spin around to judge the rest of the battle.
The Togepi’s Extrasensory attack struck him and he snarled viciously, the pain inside his own head making him almost delirious. He wasn’t going to give up any time soon, he wasn’t going to flee and he was going to make these creatures pay. He lunged at the Togepi, not taking the time to prepare an attack, but just desperate to hurt the creature. The Humans were dangerously close now, but he ignored them. They would be easy to defeat when these irritating pokemon were out of the way.
ooc; I hope that all made sense. @.@

The woman's eyes widened as the Weavile taunted the Mankey, a wild expression on the dark pokemon's face. She had seen that kind of look before -- it was one one suicide. "What are your pokemon doing?" she yelled, stiffening. Were his pokemon stupid? Unable to intervene, she could only watch in horror as the Weavile drowned itself and the Mankey in a rushing Avalanche. This entire battle was making Sin's nerves fray like almost nothing had before.
Then that accursed Vulpix decided to run head-on into that cascade of snow and ice. "What the hell?" she snarled. Sinclair glared at the pink-haired man beside her, clenching her teeth. "Are your pokemon just doing this now or is this how they normally are?" she asked harshly, a hint of sadness flickering in her rage-filled eyes before she glanced away. "It's not like we can save them all ..."
The brunette shoved the thought away. She wouldn't let these pokemon die -- for all she knew, they could be important to that man. It had barely been a few hours, and Sinclair could already feel herself -- praise be to Arceus -- getting attached to her Mareep and Budew. But ... there were already three critically injured pokemon on their hands, and that Mankey showed no signs of being taken down just yet. Worst-case scenario, their pokemon were ... Sinclair turned her attention to the battle.
This was no time to be sentimental.
Her mouth turned up into a vicious smile as the Mankey started to approach. This was a Noctus pokemon, yes, and it was definitely a threat. But Sinclair had been wrestling with her father's pokemon since she was little -- all of his pokemon -- and she knew how to handle them. From what she could see, that boy could handle himself quite well; so her focus would definitely be protecting Rosa. Of course, helping out wasn't going to be that much of a problem.
Picking up her little Budew, she pointed at the rushing Mankey. "Rosa, use Growth!" she murmured. Opening her petals once again, Rosa absorbed the light and felt herself 'power up.' The Budew prepared another Razor Leaf, but Sinclair stopped her pokemon with a gentle pat. "This time, use Absorb, okay?" Rosa stared up at her trainer, then nodded. For once, the baby pokemon understood the severity of the situation. She had seen the two pokemon go down under that cold attack -- and now that evil pokemon was aiming for the cute one behind the other human!
Opening her bud once more, a small beam of light came from it, aimed directly at the dark pokemon, the Budew ready to absorb as much as she possibly could from the Mankey. SUMMARY rosa uses growth then absorb. NOTES hmmm. TAGS griff!

Griff flinched when the girl snarled at him. What could he say? That they were normally mad, reckless creatures that, if given a choice, would always go down fighting? Because that sounded really stupid right now, when running away was by far the better choice. "We all have our flaws, and theirs happens to be bravery," he said with a grim smile, clearly not happy at all about the turn of events.
"Bloody hell," Griff gritted through his teeth. It wasn't like Atlas hadn't the time to dodge out of the way--Griff had seen him fight too many times to doubt that the weavile would still be up and screeching away now if he hadn't thought first to defend the party.
When the mankey leapt out of the snow, that suited Garnet just fine. Half-buried herself, her embers made it easy for her to dig through the avalanche, searching desperately for a body. Finally, her nose smelled the telltale signs of life. She breathed a sigh of relief, although her relief was only that the weavile wasn't torn to shreds. Instead, his entire torso was in ruins, a mere scratch having displaced bones, the open gashes on his chest gushing dark and viscous. The white snow was already soaking fast in the weavile's blood, her paws were sticky in it, but Garnet would take a life wherever she found one.
<Vul! Vulpix!> she cried out the good news to Griff. "Keep him in the snow!" he told her, and she hastily piled the snow back on top of Atlas. With any luck, putting the ice pokemon in the cold would give them the few minutes they needed to either win this fight or die trying--or running. But then, Griff suspected that if they ran, they'd merely die running.
So the fight continued. Sprite saw the mankey coming from a mile away, and the solosis didn't even blink. He had options, and a lifetime spent taunting the law meant he could make snap decisions just fine. Instead of dodging, Sprite used acid armor yet again, his body liquifying even further. The mankey's attacks broke through the psychedelic screen from his reflect, and its claws splashed straight through the solosis. Griff saw Sprite wince, but with his defenses and built up as they were, the solosis had dealt with much worse. With his wits still about him, Sprite shimmered as another psywave lashed out at the mankey.
Then the mankey found a new target, and Sprite's eyes widened. <Sol!> he cried out in warning, sending every thought of alarm, panic, and neon bright signs of danger to Griff.
Griff was as good as Sprite when it came to operating under stress. He glanced down to the togepi at his feet, and then went on with what he saw as the best course of action. "I am so sorry about this," he said to Bess. As the mankey rushed towards the togepi, Griff stepped back, and with a certain amount of skill, Griff punted the togepi away. Bess hurtled through the air, startled and wailing before she landed safely and gracelessly into the avalanche's snow.
Griff threw himself out of the mankey's way. He heard the mankeys fists and claws make contact with brick wall behind where he and Bess had just stood. When he looked up, the wall had been demolished, the mankey's fury having pummeled it into a small ruin. That could've been him. Or worse, that could've been Bess. Before the mankey recovered, Griff was already back on his feet, backing away, his scalpel held low and ready while his other hand bled.
"Volta! I need an attack!" Griff yelled. Up above, Volta still gleamed as a beacon of static electricity, all crackling sparks and glowing light. She glanced down, and screeched <Emolga!> Not having the time to twist any electricity to her command, she instead sent a second air slash down at the mankey, it's razor blades of wind threatening to either shred the mankey, or at least lay genuine ruin to the already damaged building.
Unknown to Griff, riding on the back of the air slash, Garnet had finished covering the dying weavile in his own element. Snarling, the vulpix had gathered solar energy about her, and she channeled it into an attack, hurling an energy ball at the mankey to rapidly succeed the emolga's air slash.
Hoping that the attacks would distract the mankey--or maybe even that the mankey wasn't interested in fighting humans--Griff ran towards the remnants of the avalanche. The snow was bitter cold, but that was good for the weavile. He could see that Atlas' wounds were severe, and he really didn't know what to do. He had to stabilize him, obviously, but how? Griff knew a potion would be no good, like putting a band-aid on a heart attack, but he dug through his bag anyway, spraying down the weavile's open gashes and hoping that it'd be enough to keep him together for now.
Griff ran the pokeball through the bed of snow and returned Atlas to it. With some luck, between the cold, the potion, and the pokeball's healing function, maybe the weavile could live. That was his hope, anyway.
By his side again, the togepi shivered in the snow. "You're okay? You should return too," Griff said, but Bess shook her head still. A part of him suspected it was the company she kept. If none of his other pokemon would run and hide, and one of them seemed perfectly willing to die like an idiot, Bess wouldn't turn tail either. Frightened as she was, she took deep breaths, calming herself before she called on the psychic extrasensory again. words 936 notes long ass post is long tag mod! lv10 ~ Atlas fainted! lv09 ~ Sprite used Acid Armor and Psywave! lv12 ~ Volta used Charge and Air Slash! lv08 ~ Garnet used Energy Ball! lv05 ~ Bess dodged (lol) and used Extrasensory!

While it felt itself growing somewhat weaker, a green beam of some sort seeming to hit it, it still ran straight toward the Togepi. Its rage was full force by this point, arms flailing about angrily and teeth bared as it charged them, not using any real attack and nearly forgetting everything that had happened up until this point. Sure, he had sustained his own injuries so far, but none of them were setting in, a nice side effect to being a noctus pokemon. While his rampage was now slowing down, that did not mean that it was really any weaker, no matter how much energy the Budew stole from him.
By this point, the foolish one from the Avalanche had fainted and the Mankey was pleased, having accomplished what it set out to do. That pokemon, if it survived, would surely think twice about ever doing what he had done again. Taunting a pokemon and then trying to use such a strong attack on it! Ha! The Mankey had a feeling that even if it could battle again, the thing never would. It would have to be horrified after battling something like himself. Same thing for that Mareep. He was growing more pleased. Two down... not many more to go. Not to mention, that Vulpix seemed distracted anyway, back at the Avalanche, worrying about the Weavile when it should have been working about itself!
He scoffed as he took in at them, only to come to a near complete halt. There was that damned psychic attack again! Ooh, it hurt so bad! He could feel his entire body throbbing and pulsing from the pain. Again he bared his teeth and snarled, pupil-less eyes not moving from his target to the green one who did this to him. He was not going to loose focus on the weak one. Not yet anyway. After destroying it, then sure, he could go ater the Solosis. Then he would not be distracted at all and could rip it apart much more easily. However, it seemed as if that might be a bit harder with the others. Still, he was now set and determined.
Charging toward the man and pokemon, he suddenly found himself hitting a brick wall. Tearing the damned thing apart as if that was what the Togepi had transformed into, he turned around to face the others once more. His breathing was heavy, almost labored and his eyes once again glared down toward the Togepi, glowing in color as they used a Leer once more. He cried out angrily at them once more before again charging toward the human and where he believed the Togepi must now be as well.
Suddenly, he was being hit once more! Again, he stopped to look and spotted what was causing it. The Emolga! Now snarling at this thing, he wanted to give it his best leer, but could not seem to get the attack going. No, instead he would just have to keep his eyes on the target. But still, the flying thing was becoming a problem as well! Watching it, he decided that he leaped into the air, unleashing the best scratch he could muster up, and while he was certain he could hit the thing, it did not seem as if that might be true. Looking toward the wall, he decided that he would once again have to climb it, then leap from there onto the Emolga.
Ignoring the man who tried desperately to save the foolish Weavile, he began trying to climb the wall when another painful attack was thrown toward him. Smashing into his back and momentarily pinning him against the wall, he lost his grip and fell back to the ground. A loud thud echoed throughout as he made contact with the ground, still, he slowly rose to his feet. Looking around for who could have cause it, he was struck with his best idea yet. Four of the five pokemon seemed to listen to the boy, so why not go for him? Taking off in a full force run toward Griff, he was not going to be distracted this time! His cries were blood curdling and he was certain that he had them now.
ooc|| Hope I did this right :3 Mankey used Leer then attempted a furious scratch attack on Emolga. ^^

Rosa's absorb hit its mark, and the Budew wriggled uncomfortably when the pokemon felt strange energy flow into her. What was going on? Sin, noticing her pokemon's discomfort, smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry, Rosa. Just keep it up." The Grass pokemon nodded. Now that a clear beam had been established between her and the Mankey, Rosa opened her petals to grow, then Absorb even more -- as much as she possibly could. The beam of light seemed to solidify and grow thicker, and the Budew kept her focus only on the Mankey.
Sinclair slowly placed Rosa on the ground, still gripping the handle of the sheathed knife. That Mankey was getting closer, and things were going to get nasty. She ignored the punting of the small Togepi to safety -- it was a good thing that the egg pokemon didn't splat on the ground like so much goo -- and instead turned her attention to the pokemon that were being attacked by the Mankey. Wait, did that wall completely crumble? She needed to rethink her plans. That Soliosis seemed intact enough; its gooey body was certainly a plus. It looked as if the avalanched Weavile was out of the count, so that left that green blob, the flying Emolga, the Vulpix (Garnet, was it?), and Bess the Togepi.
And Rosa, but Sinclair wasn't sure of her small body could keep up with all of these attacks. It was obvious the Budew was only recently hatched, and given a few Rare Candies to power the grass-type up; Sin thought it was quite cruel to treat Rosa so harshly on her first day out. It's not like I have much of a choice, though. Her eyes carefully tracked the movement of the Mankey, noting that Griff had moved to his pokemon's side. She watched in satisfaction as their attacks met the darkness pokemon.
Then her eyes widened. "Shit," she hissed, running toward the other man, drawing an objection from Rosa which Sinclair promptly ignored. That thing ... is fucking fast! "Kid, watch out!" Breaking into a flat-out sprint, the brunette closed the space between her and the man as fast as she could. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she knew that she was doing was batshit crazy and she probably wouldn't come out of it with all four limbs intact, but she felt some sort of sick, twisted responsibility to this man. Besides, she reasoned, we might as well go down together. In an eerily well-practiced movement, Sinclair flipped the sheath of her larger knife off and pulled out her army knife, flicking it open. She spun to face the rushing Mankey, guarding with her large knife.
Her mind was on overdrive -- she was directly in the Mankey's line of attack. Bracing herself, she swung her army knife forward, attempting to drive it straight into the Mankey's body. SUMMARY rosa uses growth and absorb, while sin goes in with a knife. NOTES p-pffft. ohgod. TAGS griff!

The mankey grappled for Volta, but she didn't care. Rising just a hair's breadth further up into the air and out of reach, she sneered down at the mankey, all arrogance and bravado despite her fallen teammate--or because of her fallen teammate. To show any self doubt now would dishonor the weavile's efforts, and she wouldn't have any of that. She might've fought for self-defense before, but now her fear had evaporated, and all Volta cared for was the taste of sweet revenge. This son of a bitch was going down.
Cackling as the mankey missed, Volta spun in the air, giving the mankey her arse side (which was her finer side, in her opinion) and a flip of her finger. Then, without missing a beat, she attacked, the wind whipping about her, and Volta's wings beat a third Air Slash into the dark mankey's face.
Never defensive enough, Sprite took the respite from the mankey's attentions on the emolga to use acid armor for a third and final time. Now its body was purely liquid slush floating in the air, given sentient form only by his own psychic power. The solosis felt like a one trick pony, but it was a damn good trick. It rose up higher in the air, intent on providing backup for Volta if the mankey thought to attack her again. As it flew higher, Sprite's body--if it could be called that anymore--glittered before it glowed with the all too familiar light of a psywave attack. The psychic rays beamed out to strike at the mankey yet again.
Surprisingly enough, Bess reacted first to the mankey charging in Griff's direction. In a panic, she batted futilely at Griff's arm for his attention, crying danger while she gathered her psychic strength yet again. "What--oh, fuck." If Atlas' ruined body hadn't given him a taste of cold reality, then the noctus mankey intent on charging him down certainly did.
Even as Bess' extrasensory attacked the mankey, Griff could tell a psychic attack couldn't slow it down. If Atlas were still standing, an avalanche would've certainly done the trick, but now it was just him, Garnet, and Bess doing their best sitting duck impression at this end of the alley. As if it would work, Bess appealed to her charm, pleading adorably for--by the sound of it--Griff's life.
Well, that was a little pessimistic.
<Vul!> Garnet snapped. She had her own way of doing things, and none of them involved her questionable amounts of charisma. Solar light gathered again, but it was a vain effort if she meant to turn the mankey astray. "It's not a physical attack, it can't stop him. Move! Get to higher ground," Griff commanded in a quick breath.
Then the girl appeared out of no where (by arceus' flaccid tail, how fast could she move?) and Griff took her as a blessing if not a saint. She handled her knife with more grace and training than he did, and Griff took that to mean he could trust she knew how to use it. That was good, because he wasn't going to sit tight and watch her back--especially since it didn't seem to need any watching. Not wasting the human barrier in front of him, Griff dashed to the side, ducking low and circling around girl.
In the end, Griff held to the first rule of street fighting: go for the knees. Swiftly, he swept his leg out and under the mankey. With any luck, the mankey could fall on Sin's knife, or at least he could throw the noctus pokemon off its stride before it made full-force contact with the girl. Without luck, they were all screwed--but Griff already knew that. words 610 notes wat u doin sin!!!! tag mod! lv09 ~ Sprite used Acid Armor and Psywave! lv12 ~ Volta used dodged and used Air Slash! lv08 ~ Garnet used Energy Ball! lv05 ~ Bess used Extrasensory and Charm!Aaaand, Griff tries a leg sweep. The second human appeared from nowhere and seemed to join in the battle herself. The mankey didn't falter, but his clouded mind whirred into action. Yes, this was perfect. Most domesticated pokemon wouldn't dare attack without their useless humans. Take those two out, and the wall would fall within minutes. And what did they have to defend themselves? Nothing, they were such useless creatures...
His rage allowed the pokemon's attacks to hit, but he didn't care. He ignored the fact that they were steadying weakening him, that he'd have to wrap this up quickly or be defeated himself - and of course, that was unacceptable. He had to destroy them, and he certainly would. The pink-haired human, the female perhaps, lunged forwards with an obvious low-kick attack. The Mankey jumped up, propelling himself through the air towards the other. He would almost definitely crash into the creature and he let out a roar, another anger-fulled attack revealed as he tried to pummel the long-haired girl. His claws were as sharp as his mind was clouded, he would defeat these nasty creatures.
He jumped back after the attack on the girl, panting slightly. A red stain was beginning to emerge on his chest. Seemingly unnoticed, it appeared that the blade had struck the mankey. He didn't register it, instead glaring at the other human with his soulless eyes. He'd show it how a real low-kick was done. Lunging forwards without warning, leg outstretched, he'd take the humans down. If it hit, it would cause some serious damage. Perhaps even break their puny little human bones. The mankey let out a battle cry. They would be punished.
