Max stretched as he woke up, he'd barely slept because he was so excited. His pokemon were finally ready for their first gym badge. He pulled on a tshirt and his jeans, slipped on his hoodie and shoes and then bent down to tie his shoe laces. Finally Max put on his belt, clipping on his pokeballs containing his five pokemon. He had Chikara his nidoran, Kaji his magby, Shi his ditto, Reikon his gastly and Kokoro his ralts. They had all been training hard for this battle. Kokoro had even learned icy wind and Reikon had learnt thunderbolt just for this match.
Max stood in the centre of Featherwing City and stared up at the tall skyscraper, it was higher than most of the other buildings surrounding it. A sign outside read Featherwing City Gym. Max swallowed his nerves and walked towards the entrance, pushing the door open. The large lobby was wide and spacious with a lift at the back. Max headed towards it but a woman sitting behind the entrance desk stopped him, "Sorry, the lift is out of order." Max sighed, that was just his luck. She pointed him towards the stairs and he trudged towards them, beginning the long assent to the top floor.
Half-way up and his calves ached like he'd just discovered new muscles in his legs. Max groaned when he saw the sign for the floor number, there was a long way to go yet. He touched the pokeballs at his belt and smiled, at least they were prepared for the fight at the top of the tower.
When Max finally reached the top of the skyscraper he was out of breath and red in the face, his legs felt like they were on fire. Max pushed open the door to the gym and felt the butterflies in his stomach start up again. He felt he should announce himself to someone so he told the first person he saw, "Hi, I'm Max Sanders, I want to challenge the gym leader here." He was looking forward to the gym battle and testing himself and his pokemon.

The young boy looked around as the other male spoke to him. "Hi, I'm Max Sanders, I want to challenge the gym leader here." His arms were crossed as he looked Max up and down. "Yeah, of course you do." He groaned unenthusiastically, "Silver, can you go get Adelaide?" He spoke shortly to the Murkrow on his shoulder. She nodded eagerly, flapping her wings and disappearing into the sky. He sighed as they waited, allowing an awkward silence to spread between them. He honestly had the most boring job in the entire world. He spent all day on the top of a rubbish skyscraper, watching his pokemon and the Gym Leader flying around and having fun, while he kept an eye out for trainers. Well, at least he was only here one day a week. And he got racing tips from Adelaide... A loud gust of wind roared, as a giant bird flew over the heads of the duo. The monstrous winged creature zoomed past, followed by the Murkrow who landed back on her master's shoulder. The Pidgeot looped in the air, the laughter of the woman on his back heard from the roof. The bird flew back over the roof, and the trainer jumped off, landing on the floor with a grin. She barely stumbled, grinning, as she jumped up, stroking her powerful pokemon as he landed behind her. "That was fantastic, Shikari!" She laughed breathlessly. She turned around, grinning at Max, "Hi there! I hear you're here for a battle?" She asked, a determined grin on her face. "A single battle with two pokemon okay?" She reached down to her boot, pulling out a pokeball from somewhere in her jumpsuit. "Ready?" She asked, releasing the pidgey. The Pokemon hopped around the ground, pecking at the floor a little. She rustled her feathers, watching Max curiously. "I won't go easy on you, so you'd better make this exciting!" The young boy's bored reply did little to dampen Max's spirits. He couldn't remember the last time he'd been this excited. If Max won this battle then he'd have earned his first badge and could travel down to the next town with a gym. The young boy sent his murkrow to get the gym leader and Max held his breath, waiting to catch his first glimse of the powerful trainer.
Max grinned when he saw the pidgeot's swooping entrance. He'd heard a lot about the gym leader here, from what people had told him Adelaide was a complete adrenaline junky. Her retired pidgeot was discussed around the town as people discussed the bird pokemon races. Max was in awe of the large bird pokemon, the pidgeot looked so strong and powerful, much more experienced than any pokemon he'd met.
When Max heard Adelaide's challenge to make it exciting he smiled broadly, "I'll do my best," he laughed, moving to the challenger's end of the field. The large room had high vaulted ceilings with plenty of room for the bird pokemon to manouver. Max had thought a lot about his strategy, afterall it was hard attacking a flying bird pokemon when your pokemon was stuck on the floor. He chose a pokeball carefully and tossed it lightly on to the field, releasing his Gastly - Reikon. Reikon cackled, Gaaa-stly, he floated on to the field. "Reikon, hide," Max ordered and Reikon vanished, the ghost type loved hiding and jumping out at people. He could also float up as high as the bird pokemon could fly.
"Reikon get things started with a lick attack!" The invisible Gastly reappeared close to the pidgey and stuck out his long pink tongue, aiming to lick the other pokemon. Max hoped that the surprise attack would do the trick, he'd spent a long time strategising for this match.
Reikon used lick.

As the Gastly was released, Ready took to the skies, her small wings beating hard against the strong winds above the city. She swooped around a little, her Keen Eye ability watching the Gastly intently. Adelaide smirked, her arms crossed in a battle stance as she watched the battle begin to unfold. This was always her favourite part of fights; when both pokemon had been revealed but there was no telling which of the two would win. The Gastly vanished from view, causing the Pidgey to look confused. She glanced back at her trainer, squawking nervously and looking for guidance. "Keep looking!" called Adelaide, her fingers tightening on her arms. The bird looked around, gliding and swooping in tiny circles as she tried to locate the ghost type. Suddenly the creature appeared directly in front of her, gliding through her with its tongue outstretched. The Pidgey squawked, shocked and flustered, but now that it had figured out where the Gastly was, flapped her wings rapidly with a Gust attack. Adelaide started to grin, "Did you forget that Ghost type moves have no affect on normal types?" She teased, glad that her own pokemon seemed to have the advantage. Max scowled, the lick attack had hit but other than shock the pidgey it hadn't affected it at all. The ghost type move wouldn't work on it because it was a dual type normal and flying. He frowned, why didn't he think of that? Ready's gust attack blew up a gale from beneath the other pokemon's wings, Gastly struggled, pulling a face before being blown backwards slightly.
"Reikon, get down!" Max shouted, the Gastly dropped, avoiding being completely blown away by the blast of air but struggling against it had tired him. "Reikon hide," The Gastly faded away again and Max waited, allowing the Gastly to get away from the pidgey so it couldn't track him. "Now, Reikon use your thunderbolt!"
Invisible to the trainers, Gastly charged up a powerful electric attack, feeling the static crackling in his body. He released it in a powerful jolt of electricity that coursed across the arena towards Adelaide's pidgey. Reikon had given away his location by using the attack, it was easy to see where it had been launched, he was a few metres from Ready. "Reikon, move!" Max shouted, anxious to avoid the gym leader's attacks.
Reikon used thunderbolt.

Sadly, the Pidgey now knew what she was looking her, her Keen Eye working to her advantage as she peered at the shimmering, now semi-invisible gastly. It was almost obvious now she knew where he was, hard to describe what she could see, not much more than a blur of purple gas - like the sight of heat rising from a road - but she could just make out where he was. And that would make this fight a lot easier. The Thunderbolt, however, surprised both Ready and her trainer. Adelaide's jaw dropped slightly as the Pidgey crumbled, the powerful electricity spreading through her veins. She cried out, nothing but the super-effective pain occupying her brain. When the attack ceased, she fluttered weakly, trying to recompose herself. "There!" shouted Adelaide, her shock disappearing to excitement, "Sand attack and then jump in with a Steel Wing!" she called to the flying type who nodded, instantly swooping forwards and kicking up dirt into the gastly's eyes. Hoping it would be distracted by the sand, she lunged forwards, her previously delicate wings turning a steely, metallic grey. READYfemale, level 09tackle, sand attack, gust, steel wing.

Max had been relying on Gastly's invisibility to protect them from their opponent's attacks but now Ready's keen eye had kicked in that would no longer give them the edge. The sand attack surprised both pokemon and trainer, but Max guessed it was a distraction to hide the offensive attack. Hearing the gym leader's command, Max was ready to fight back, "Let the steel wing hit, Reikon and use thunderbolt." Max's plan was to use the steel metal wing of the pidgey as a sort-of super conductor to channel the electric attack.
As the pidgey's wing slammed into Reikon he cackled before reaching to grab Ready's wing, channelling the thunder bolt through his body and out, trying to hit the pidget hard. "Now, Reikon use hypnosis." The Gastly's eyes glowed red and rings emerged from his eyes, aimed for the pidgey. "Use hypnosis to put the pidgey to sleep, Reikon."
Reikon used thunderbolt and hypnosis on Ready
