Emmett Tiberius Bourne
Emmett rolled his eyes as him and his team went to start training. He was not too worried about Blitzle or Sandile gaining levels, they were both into battling. However, his newest addition to the team, his Growlithe who had just hatched, needed some work. Not only was she level one, but she was also such a derp. He rolled his eyes as she gave him a perfect example of this the moment they had made their way onto the field. The little female dog like pokemon took off excitedly and instantly started somersaulting and going off trying to make friends with the training dummies before deciding they were really mortal enemies. Growling and looking over her shoulder worriedly, Emmett slapped his hand against his face.
"You have got to be kidding me," He growled under his breath. Looking over his other two poke balls, he placed them back before shaking his head. No, if he ever wanted to make Kourier better, he would have to work with her. And in all reality, he doubted she would ever become 'better'. Maybe learn some strong attacks and /hopefully/ start learning that in a battle, the other pokemon could not be friends. Sure, before or after, but during, they could not be. She had a tendency to curl up to them and lick them, making her a complete embarrassment in any battle. He had been so excited for her too, Growlithe and Arcanine were supposed to be loyal and intelligent... yet his was more of a fool. He rolled his eyes as she flopped onto her back and pawed the air, watching some leaves flutter through the breeze.
"Alright, well this will take more work than I though," He shook his head, his eyes appearing much more dull than usual. At least he looked like he had taken a shower for once in his life. Approaching the Growlithe, Emmett knelt down, not sure which part of the training course they should practice first. Perhaps work on the obstacles, teach her to dodge. If anything, he figured this might be best for her. But then again, working on actually attacking would be good as well. He looked between the dummies and the obstacles before deciding to split up the training time between both. Starting with her attacks. Looking back toward the dummies, he watched the little fire dog leap to her feet and once again try to make friends with one before deciding it was a mortal enemy once more.
She now stood, with fur on end and he smiled to himself. Finally, something he could work with! "Alright! Kourier, use Bite!" He called out, only to be responded with a sort of whine and then an attempted Roar. He shook his head and consisted allowing his palm to meet his face once more. "Shit... uhm, alright, well, try that again!" He decided to just go with it. Her little tail wagged and again she attempted a Roar. This time it worked a little better. Her little body shook with excitement as she released more of a growl than anything. "Good," Emmett finally smiled a little bit, moving closer to pat her, only to have her roll onto her stomach, expecting a belly rub. He shook his head. "When you get it down, we can rub your belly," He stood up and moved back to where he was originally.
"Alright, Kourier, let's use Roar once more," He said, the little dog excited that this time it could use the move correctly. She bounced around, releasing a much stronger Roar this time, one that could hopefully chase away a smaller pokemon. Perhaps a Pidgey or Rattatta. "Awesome," He responded, pleased that she had yet to become distracted. However, just as he said it, she figured she was done and took off, chasing some sort of invisible Butterfree... or something of that sort. Emmett found his smile quickly fade and he fell to his butt, waiting for her to remember they were in training and return. Finally, after about ten minutes of running in circles (which he decided could not be that bad, since she had to be building up stamina) she came barreling back, ramming right into his gut as she tried to leap into his lap.
Quickly pushing her back off of him, Emmett stood once more. "Alright you little derp, let's try that bite attack again," He said looking back toward the still dummy. He hoped that eventually she would be able to attack the moving targets, but he did not get his hopes up too high. The little dog ran in circles around him before finally latching onto his calf, which resulted in him hollering and chasing her across the field, making a game out of the bad behavior. "No! Don't bite me! Bite the target!" He seemed to use his own roar attack as he chased the playful puppy before she returned to barking at the still dummy.
"I give up," Emmett sighed, watching her as she finally attacked like she was supposed to. Romping around the training dummy, she continued to leap up and bite at it. Her little tail wagged and she growled playfully each time. "Progress," Emmett had to remind himself as he watched her tire herself out by biting and running away from the dummy. Deciding to just stick with working on her offense for now, Emmett allowed her to work on this. Next time, they could practice her other attacks or dodging or whatever else. But for now, he was pleased she was at least biting the damn thing. "Keep up the good work!" He called out, the positive reinforcement making Kourier more and more excited to once again continue leaping at the dummy before running and hiding then returning to do the same thing.
Finally, she seemed to have tired herself out. Once again barreling toward Emmett, she plopped down on him, again biting at his leg. However, this time it was much worse. He hooted out of pain, her teeth seeming to break the skin, at least a little bit. Shoving her off again, she seemed to laugh at him before again growling at the dummy, her head moving worriedly as it looked from Emmett to the dummy. "I'm thinking that is enough for today," He groaned, completely frustrated but pleased he had kept Veloc in his poke ball. The little Sandile would have made fun of him and Kourier the entire time, which would have only made him much more frustrated throughout the entire situation. Sure, he might be the best trainer ever born, but Kourier was darn near impossible to work with.
After about another hour of resting in the shade, Emmett stood up and lead Kourier back toward the dummies, keeping her away from the ones that did not move (since they seemed to confuse her). Heading toward the slower moving targets, he pointed at the middle one and looked at his little dog pokemon. "Think you can bite that one? Its almost like tag... but this time you're it," She barked excitedly, this seeming to actually set in for her. Finally something seemed to be working. She took off after the target, trying to latch onto it. Still, she missed several times before finally managing to grasp the damn thing. Again and again she was doing it and over and over until she was finally biting a little harder, almost leaving momentarily imprints on softer parts of the dummies. "Alright, good! Now try Roar again!" While Kourier was small, her voice finally sounded a bit bigger. Her roar was not the most intimidating (or even close to the most intimidating) one he had ever heard, but it was better than her little whines and barks from before. Continuing with this method of breaks and then trying to get Kourier to bite and roar at the moving and non-moving targets, Emmett doubted that she was actually learning anything. Instead, he imagined her really playing her own game in her mind and what she was doing in that game was coincidentally corresponding with what he was saying. They would leave and he would ask her to preform an attack and instead she would look at him like what the shit?
As their session finally ended, Emmett found himself holding little Derp in his arms, rubbing her belly as her paws kicked the air and she tried to lick him. Her excitement was easy to see, her ears twitching and eyes focused on the trainer she loved. Her tail wagged and Emmett rolled his eyes. This thing needed some /serious/ work, he decided once more. She was so much more different than the other two on the team, too. He had no clue how to handle her.
