If anything had told him anything, Lafayette had known from the moment that he scooped the crimson and white ball from the Professor's hands, that the Pokemon within would be a special thing. It would explain why he had taken such a quick liking to Adele, the young Deerling trotting merrily beside him. After he had gotten over the initial curiosity as to why the Deerling was green rather than pink in the pictures he had seen, he had worked out the Pokemon's strange ability to alter its form with the seasons. It seemed to make the Pokemon even more likeable than before, and as summer continued to reign, Adele was a fine shade of emerald green, her furry little tail bobbing to and fro as she walked with a spring in her step, much to Lafayette's wonderment and delight.
The dampness of his pants had ceased, after walking around in the sun long enough, that is. His wound was cleaner, but it was still infected in some sense, and knowing Lafayette, he simply wouldn't care for it. His gaze flitted everywhere as he inspected Featherwing. He had gotten to see much of the city after being lost for quite some time, but there was still much more to be seen. The best part about being in the city had to be finding loose change that people dropped many a times, and now he had amassed quite the collection, which were causing his pockets to sag a little. Lafayette swept his bangs to the side with a cheeky grin on his face, bathing in the sunshine as his pale blonde hair glowed in the reflection of the sun.
There was so much he needed to do in Featherwing! He had to train Adele and Evita, and hopefully he would be able to catch a little more Pokemon to his collection. Besides, he wasn't sure if he could take on the gym leader with just two Pokemon. That, and Lafayette wasn't even sure if it was safe to fight with a Togepi and a Deerling. He didn't want his two little darlings getting mauled in a fight. He couldn't possibly bear with the emotional burden should Adele or Evita fail to win the match. Dabbing his forehead of sweat, Lafayette decided to walk a little faster, catching up with his Deerling and giving her a friendly little coo and pat on the back. She was such a doll, really, and to think, that he had all the time with her now that Adele was a companion was a more than delightful thought for Lafayette's childlike mind.
Here they walked in the open, as though showing off his gorgeous new Deerling to the whole world to make them jealous of him. Adele wasn't exactly fond of the strange stares, but there was something reassuring about the presence of Lafayette's hand close by to keep her close that gave her a sense of security. Mumbling something to herself, the Deerling smiled, doe eyed, before allowing her eyes to roam and search for a potential source of training. |

< What an ugly color. > The sour words of an airborne flying type were only heard by herself, but they pleased her none the less. From above she could make out a single Deerling traversing with a two-leg that appeared just as proud. If the deer Pokémon was able to fly it would be spotted and preyed upon immediately, that’s how useless its vibrant color was. However, envy was only in the small Spearow’s nature. Oh how she coveted the inviting and healthy glow emanating from the Deerling’s coat. She then perched upon a tree and began preening her own dully colored feathers, clearly trouble at her own simplicity. Composed of nothing by earthly brown and red colors, she wasn’t much to behold. Perhaps if she were pretty like the Deerling, she could receive just as much attention
The Spearow scanned the city floor, her sharp eyesight taking in every detail until she came across the perfect accessory. < Perfect! > Strewn upon the ground was old confetti, obviously left over from a previous festival. She quickly took flight once more only to land beside the patch of brightly colored scraps of paper, rolling onto her back in order to wallow in it. Rain and grime had made the bits sticky; therefore it was safe for her to fly. The newly decorated Spearow then relocated the Deerling and made it a point to land right before it, her wings spread so that everyone could respect her beauty. With a few intimidating flaps of her wings she squawked, < I challenge you to a battle. A battle, of beauty! > Giving no time for its consent, the flying type Growled before diving in for a vicious Peck.
A wild Spearow has appeared! Female. Level: Six. Growl | Peck | Leer

Adele trotted along, her tail bobbing in the gentle breeze. Even Lafayette's hair would mess up now and then, only for him to sweep it back to its slightly untamed, yet perfectly obedient locks of pale blonde hair. Lafayette hummed, adding a little spring to his steps as they walked across the city pavement. The floor was grey concrete, but strips and little pieces of confetti and various sparkling papers lay on the ground, probably from a festival of some sort, Lafayette presumed. He wished he had found his way around a little earlier - He would have been able to get Adele real quickly from the professor, and he could have hightailed out of there nice and quick, just in time for whatever just happened. He never really enjoyed a festival before - Most of the time, he had to attend weird functions with his parents. They often lectured him for his terrible dining etiquette, but Lafayette had long figured out that he was never going to use it anyway, so why bother?
As he paused to examine the confetti with wonderment, Adele had taken the liberty of wandering a little off course. On her little stick like legs, the Deerling took off, tottering through the streets as her hooves clacked like knocking a branch against a pebble, alternating between short sprints and little gallops or slower strolls. Her walking was erratic, but bemusing, no less. Lafayette looked up for a moment, making sure she was not going too far astray, before a colourful feathered creature landed before her, surprising both Pokemon and trainer. Lafayette rose to his feet, curiously peering at the Spearow. What on earth could that be? He hadn't seen anything quite like that Spearow. Interest arouse, Lafayette approached the bird cautiously, wondering what moves it would pull out. Maybe it danced, or perhaps it would do a little performance! Delightful, if anything, really.
Adele looked at the curious specimen, weirded out by its display of strange feathers. It looked like it was a mix between a Archen and a Pidgey that just jumped off a cliff and chose not to fly. Simply put, it wasn't a very pretty looking bird, if anything. But no sooner had the bird spoken did Adele feel quite confused. A battle? She didn't feel very keen for that. With great difficulty, the Pokemon managed to make a coherent sentence, ( Um, I don't think that's wise...! Battling is quite a scary thing, isn't it? ) Before she could try to walk away from the potential fight, the Spearow had attacked, and it was simply too fast even for a terrified Deerling to dodge the attack. She shrieked in pain as the Peck jabbed her from the side, an attack that definitely hit a weak spot. Adele tumbled, losing her footing and crumpling to the ground like a broken twig. She winced in pain, crying out for Lafayette to help.
Lafayette was still in his daze of watching the curious Spearow when it had suddenly lashed out at Adele. He gasped, running to the Deerling's aid and then checking for injuries. "ADELE!" he shouted, frantic and panicky. Brown eyes glared at the attacker, his bemusement at the colourful Spearow all lost now that it had attacked his precious little baby. Hoisting the Pokemon into his arms (for she was not that heavy and that big anyway), Lafayette rummaged around for another Pokeball, patting little Adele and soothed her as he let out Evita. In a burst of white light, the Togepi had appeared with a gruff call, clearly containing much more testosterone than a normal female would. Pointing an accusing finger at the Spearow, Lafayette barked orders, "Evita! Teach that bully a lesson for me! Use Extrasensory!"
With a gruff nod, the Togepi rolled forward as though in a army drill, barrelling through the confetti. Once it had managed to get closer to the Spearow, Evita let out a deafening wail, pink rings bearing psychic powers erupting from her mouth. She narrowed her eyes, focusing the attack on the Spearow as it traveled towards the colourful bird, Evita herself dotted in strips of confetti from all that rolling. Meanwhile, Lafayette tended to Adele, who seemed a little shaken, but still good enough for now. He would take her to the center later, but for now, it seemed as though Adele would regain her strength by herself just fine. He smiled and patted her on the head, returning to the battle soon after. |

The Spearow scoffed at the grass type Pokémon. It was behaving as if she hadn’t seen the attack coming. But it’d been completely obvious! One could not walk around with such brilliant colors adorned and not expect a jealous passerby here and there. A curse the Deerling would have to get used to if she wanted to sport that fur. Spearow was positive she wasn’t the only Pokémon envious of her vibrant green pelt! It was almost disappointing how easily the Deerling crumpled underneath such a weak attack. Then again, she was a flying type herself, so the attack had been super effective. Perhaps she should have taunted her a bit more in the beginning before going in for the kill. Unfortunately, she was easily blinded by fury and didn’t think things through properly when in such a mindset. Oh well, what’s done is done, and if it were possible, the Spearow would be giving smug grin at her opponent nonetheless. Her work was done here; there was no point in antagonizing the weak Pokémon any further. However, before she could take flight once more, a small egg-like Pokémon was called forth—with pretty red and blue triangles, she might add—and was ordered to attack with a painful Extrasensory attack.
Spearow squawked and crumpled at the abrupt assault on her ears. Fighting unconsciousness, the flying type rose once more and glared at the baby Pokémon, shaking her head. She had no intention of fighting any other Pokémon, she’d accomplished her mission by humiliating the Deerling and she’d claimed her title as the world’s most beautiful Pokemon to grace the Earth. However, when she noticed the Togepi was dressed in flamboyant confetti similar to her own, she went off the deep end. < I will not allow you to take my unique and completely original look! Absolutely unacceptable! You have once second to take it off before I lose my temper! > Her attempt at cility had been futile, for her temper had been gone a long while, much to the young Togepi’s misfortune. How dare she bite the Spearow’s individualistic look! She’d show her! She’d show any Pokémon that dare step at her fashion sense. With an unsettling caw the Spearow barrled forward for another Peck.

If anything, Lafayette seemed mad. The Spearow could have been a respectable and nice young chap and perhaps they could even have a relatively civil conversation. The bird did have quite the queer dress sense, to which Lafayette found quite interesting. Instead, the Pokemon had chosen to fight back instantly, throwing the first punch! Lafayette was mildly offended by the Pokemon's crass and rude mannerisms. Adele rested in his arms, slowly lowered to the ground where she was safe and sound. His brown eyes swivelled back to the battle, where he had better focus on. He didn't want Evita to lose - He wouldn't know how to fight this Spearow if Evita didn't beat it! He did want to get revenge for it too - He had to get back at it for hurting little, innocent Adele.
Evita was quick on her feet, but not quick enough to avoid the Spearow's swift assault. The Peck attack struck her soundly on her round little bodice, sending her tumbling backwards in the air. Evita squealed, managing to land clumsily on both feet some distance away from her original position. She dusted herself off with a hefty grunt and then glared at the Spearow with an unamused face. This Spearow was getting on her nerves, and Evita bluntly called out, ( Noisy bird. ) She was a Togepi of little words, really, and most of the time Evita was too much of a simpleton to comprehend anything too complex for her mind.
Lafayette refused to give up, "Evita! C'mon, we can't let that stupid man. Let's try... Metronome!" It was a gamble, really, for Lafayette to try using Evita's Metronome, which had proven itself to be quite a surprise. Evita responded with a gruff nod and shout, waggling her fingers happily before little sharp shards of frosty ice began to form at the fingertips of the Togepi. With a slight flick, the Ice Shard attack was launched at the little colourful bird, watching the icy blue specks of glass like projectiles flying through the air with great wonder. |
