Some time after Ami had received her first pokemon, a Swablu, from Professor Hawthorne, she made her way towards Featherwing City, both to see the sights and as the logical first place of her journey. After all, poke-balls and potions were great, but they weren't the only things a trainer needed for their journey... and with this nerd, there was no chance these details would go overlooked!
"Well, that should about take care of everything..."
With this comment to herself, Ami gave a smirk to the Swablu perched at her shoulder, who gave a squawk back as they hit the streets once more. Pokemon food, a raincoat, typical first aid gear, human food... well, Ami was glad to get these chores out of the way, at least. Now she could enjoy the sights! With a simple pace, Ami began to walk down one of the city's side streets; far less populated than the cramped market or main street, it gave a refreshing sense of being able to move without bumping into someone's shoulder.
Walking down the streets of this city always seemed a little... 'cavernous', in a way. With tall buildings or skyscrapers on either side, a shadow was nearly always cast over, providing a refreshing cool shade... and perhaps a bit too-dark of an area to be honestly comfortable in. Giving a cautious noise, Ami glanced over at the Swablu with a smirk. "Oh, c'mon, its just the city! Relax a little..."
Ruffling her clouds slightly, the Swablu nodded as the pair pressed onward...

From the darkness of the shadows eyes watched the trainer and her swablu. Invisible to the girl and her pokemon the watcher crept nearer, approaching the pair stealthily and silently. The disembodied stalker reached out and tapped lightly on the trainer's shoulder before moving quickly away. Another pair of eyes watched carefully from the shadows before approaching. With a breath of wind and a flutter of wings they approached, flying high before swooping down to land on the trainer's shoulder. It was another swablu, identical to the one resting on the girl's other shoulder. Getting close to the trainer's face the first watcher suddenly became visible. It was a Gastly and delighted with his game he stretched his mouth into a creepy grin, his eyes bulging, Ga-astly he cackled wickedly. Also laughing the Swablu spun, transforming back into its true form - a Ditto!
The pair were beside themselves laughing, they found their games hilarious. Further down the side street a voice could be heard, shouting, "Reikon, Shi! Where are you?!" The sound of footsteps grew louder; in a shudder of air a third pokemon appeared. Ralts had used teleport and when he saw the Gastly and Ditto he spoke disapprovingly Ralts, Ral. Kokoro had sensed the joking pokemon and followed them and he wasn't happy. Koko was a big believer in being well-behaved and he was embarassed that Max's other pokemon had played such a possibly scary trick on another trainer.
Max came into view at a run, following his ralts. He was a pretty good looking boy, blonde and blue eyes with tousled hair he had a just-woken-up appearance. His expression was normally set in a cheeky grin but at the moment he looked worried. He saw his three pokemon and sighed in relief but when he took in the other trainer the worry was back. "I'm so sorry, did they scare you? Reikon, Shi stop that," he scolded, embarassed of their games. The pair, still laughing returned to Max's side, "they don't mean any harm, I promise but they like to play tricks." His face was creased with worry, hoping they hadn't caused too much trouble.

Perhaps it was the setting that sent the poor Swablu over the deep edge, or perhaps it was the two strange creatures approaching her tamer. Needless to say, the young Swablu didn't do well with random Pokemon approaching her tamer, especially with the intent to scare her.
As the 'identical' Swablu landed on Ami's shoulder, the young girl looked over at the small thing in confusion. Instantly, the other Swablu picked up and flew from her perch, squawking noisily at the other Swablu to go away! And yet... the other thing didn't seem all that dangerous.
"Hey, knock it off, Swabl-"
As Ami grabbed for her Pokemon to calm down, a second, gaseous being came into sight, a scary, creepy Gastly appearing mere inches from her face... alright, now THIS wasn't warranted! "Aieee!" With a scared scream, Ami waved her arm frantically at the Pokemon in an effort to get away... before feeling a mass of slime form on her other shoulder. A... Ditto? Gross! "Get off, get off!"
The Swablu's frantic noises were encouraged, demanding of the two creatures to leave her trainer alone! With all of these distractions, the two barely saw, and definitely didn't recognize, the Ralts who had walked in on the situation... no, it wasn't until Max called them off, that Ami calmed down, brushing off her shoulder from the residue. <Damn,> Ami thought to herself, out of breath from this stupid little exchange, <Keep them on a leash or something!>
Still chirping wildly, Ami carefully petted the scared bird behind its head, in an effort to calm it down. "There, there... its okay..." Ami whispered, before looking over at Max and his gang of tricksters. "Sheesh, just be glad they didn't bug something that could have hurt them!"
Ami's words came short, but with truth... if it had been any trainer with any decent pokemon... well, the situation probably wouldn't have ended as nicely. Even Swablu was about to peck that Ditto's eyes out...

Max flushed pink, his mouth slack as he struggled to find the words to explain or apologise. In the end Kokoro got there first, speaking gently into the trainer's mind. He murmured, I'm sorry for these two but it isn't Max's fault, Reikon and Shi try to make people laugh but their sense of humour is, he paused, slightly warped. Turning to the swablu he used his psychic powers and influence of emotions to try and calm the other pokemon, sending peaceful images and feelings. Kokoro found himself the mediator of disputes in several situations like these.
The way that the ralts spoke directly into the trainer's mind could be unnerving for some. Partially because the ralts was actually able to speak english rather than talking in the pokemon language which could be surprising. However, Koko could normally rely on most trainer's having met Professor Hawthorne's Gardevoir so at least Koko wouldn't be the first psychic pokemon they'd met. Of course not all people, or even all trainers, had had that experience so Kokoro speaking could be shocking.
Max found his voice and added to Kokoro's words, "yes, um... I really am sorry. Reikon, Shi apologise." The Gastly burst into exaggerated tears and hid behind Max. He might not show it but the tears were half-genuine, Reikon was a joker but he didn't mean to hurt people or scare them. Shi looked up at the young girl and apologised sincerely, dit-to. Koko looked at the two of them in despair, he couldn't believe that they'd let their tricks go far enough to scare another trainer who looked pretty knew in the city. Max wanted to make up for his pokemon's actions, "Could I buy you lunch or something? I want to make up for their behaviour. There's a nice cafe just up here that I could show you if you're new to town."
The Slowpoke Cafe was a relaxed boutique cafe just a little way up the side alley. There was seating both inside and outside of the bright building; the quaint tables were cloaked in chequered tablecloths and set with silverware and flowers in vases. The owners were an elderly couple who wanted a relaxed-atmosphere to suit their favourite pokemon - slowpoke - that were often seen inside the cafe. They did a lot of nice food for trainers as well as pokemon and it had become Max's favourite place to eat during his weeks in Featherwing City.

Well, it didn't take long for Ami's words to take effect. Clearly, the impact was rather deep with how Max seemed even more embarrassed about the situation. Though some may have just taken it in stride... well, it really just wasn't okay, and it was dangerous for both the Pokemon and the owner!
Ami was slightly surprised to see the Ralts speak up first. Much like Professor Hawthorne's Gardevoir, Ralts spoke directly into her and the Swablu's mind, explaining the mishaps of his cohorts and just how they were... demented tricksters. Up to this point, the scared Swablu had kept up a constant noise... but, with Kokoro's intervention, the bird's squawks deafened out into a confused noise, followed by a content whistle. <Weird... what was that all about?>
Shortly after, Max and his two tricksters decided to apologize. Ami looked down at the pathetic-looking Gastly and the regret-filled Ditto... aw, they wanted to play and she hurt their feelings! Suddenly, Ami felt like she hadn't been fair to them before...
Crouching down, Ami met them at eye-level with a smile. "Hey, its okay, guys; its just that some people don't like to be surprised. I know you were just trying to be nice..."
Keeping her smile, Ami stood up and glanced over at Max, accepting his apology as well... and... lunch?
"Well... I guess that works," Ami said, accepting his offer at face value. With a now-content Swablu at her shoulder, she followed Max to the cafe...

Max was relieved to see Ami crouch down to tell Reikon and Shi that she accepted their apologies. He was worried that she was going to report them to the police for bothering her and her swablu, they'd already had issues there... Reikon smiled happily when he heard Ami's words and floated up to hover near Max's shoulder. Shi transformed into a swablu again and whistled cheerfully, flapping his wings to fly up to Max's shoulder. He rested there in his bird pokemon form and sung a short burst happily. Shi loved transforming into other pokemon or people, his transformations were near-perfect and he could mimic the voices of both pokemon and people alike.
Max smiled at both of them then at the girl, leading the way further up the side passage to the Slowpoke Cafe. The small establishment was quaint and wasn't the largest place. Two tables and four chairs were set up outside and Max moved them together so everyone would have a place to sit. He pulled out a chair for Ami before sitting down himself. Kokoro sat at another chair, too small to quite reach the table so his eyes were at about the same level as the table surface. Max passed Ami a menu, having already decided that he wanted the tomato and pesto pasta bake with salad. It was his absolute favourite. The three pokemon loved the pokemon food they made here, it was tailored nutritionally to each pokemon's type and level.
Max unclipped another two pokeballs from his belt releasing his Nidoran called Chikara and magby named Kaji. Kaji settled on the fourth chair and Chikara sat quite happily on Max's lap, loving being close to him. None of them had eaten all day so all five of his pokemon would need to be fed. "The pokemon food they do here is excellent so your swablu will be in good hands," he smiled at the other trainer, "and all the human food is great too." They made pretty much any food imaginable, catering for most tastes and diet needs. "So how has your journey been so far?" He tried to begin a friendly conversation and move away from the fiasco of their introduction.

It didn't take long for Max to lead Ami and the group of Pokemon towards the Slowpoke cafe. It was a quaint, small place with a nice outdoor view of the city, kept nicely in the shade near one of the better-lit streets of the city. With Ami helping Max to move the tables together, the Swablu fluttered off to a nearby bird-feeder, to peck away at some newly-made Pokemon food. With a delighted chirp, it kept its perch, eager to have its fill.
"Ah, thank you," Ami nodded towards Max as he pulled out a chair for her, the girl taking her seat, scooting in somewhat as Max took his place. Briefly checking over the menu, Ami quickly decided on ordering the same thing Max ordered... well, it sounded good, at least!
It was about then that Max started talking about how this place kept the Pokemon well-taken care of; glancing over at Swablu, Ami gave a smirk. "Well, I can see they live up to their claims," she said with a chuckle, the bird flying over to her open hand, before once more perching on her shoulder, giving an excited chirp... what was that about her journey?
"Well... I just started today, actually, just a few hours out of Hawthorne's lab," Ami explained, slightly embarrassed... with a trainer with this many pokemon, how could she honestly compare?

Max smiled as she explained that they'd only left Hawthorne's lab a few hours previously. He'd guessed she was quite a new trainer but he didn't expect her to be on her first day of her pokemon journey. In a way it made the fact that his pokemon had played their tricks on her even worse. He didn't want to bring it up again so he bit back another apology, "oh wow, so you've really only just begun. I've been here for a couple of weeks now. Tomorrow I'm taking the Featherwing Gym challenge." He was very excited about challenging the gym, if he won he'd be able to move on to the next town with his very first gym badge. Max and his pokemon had been training hard every day to prepare and they'd gotten a lot stronger.
Max excused himself briefly, "I'll just be back in a moment," and went inside to order, leaving Ami with the pokemon. Returning quickly he sat back down to continue their conversation. It wasn't long before the food arrived. The elderly woman who owned the cafe set steaming plates in front of the trainers and dishes of pokemon food in front of their pokemon. Max's pokemon tucked in happily, chattering away to each other, Max smiled at Ami, "enjoy your meal. Hey," he had a sudden thought, "why don't we have a practice match after lunch? You could battle ditto, when he uses transform his strength is equal to the pokemon he copies so it would be a fair match." Max was excited by the idea, he enjoyed battles and this might even be Ami's first match as a trainer.
